M History

If you are not familiar with the history of BMW, BMW Motorsport GmbH was founded in 1972 as the official motorsport branch of BMW. The automotive side of the company was the main target of this new subsidiary, and the 1973 3.0 CSL was the division’s first race car.

However, BMW was engaged in motorsport long before the existence of BMW Motorsport. In the 1920s and 1930s, the company set land speed records and even won the senior race on the Isle of Man in 1939. Only 74 years later, in 2014, Michael Dunlop won another race on the Isle of man TT – the superbike race on board the S 1000 RR. Of course, BMW also tasted off-road successes at the Paris-Dakar rallies in the 1980s. BMW is celebrating this historic heritage of racing with the 50th anniversary of the m m 1000 RR package.
